HackFu 2013

The story of the development of radar is a true testament to the power of creativity and will of a small group of engineers and scientists against all the odds.

Given some of the challenges facing all of who are involved in the field of cyber security there are aspects of that story that we should be able to relate to without much effort. The story of the development and history of radar is one that’s skilfully and passionately told at the RAF Air Defence Radar Museum in the UK. So what better environment to throw everyone into for HackFu 2013. With historic items, masses of history and the control room that was at the front line of defence during the Cold War, it was a real treat to be able to spend 48 hours in a location like this.

Also there can be no better twist to keep everyone on their toes than to take that location and transform it into a replica of the Crystal Maze . Those who have seen this cult TV programme will know that it threw together groups of strangers with different skills and challenged them to compete in fiendish puzzles against the clock. To be successful needed the team to gel, spot the talents of everyone in their team, deploy them wisely and then choose a strategy that gave them the best chance of winning the star prize. So using this as a theme for HackFu seemed like a no-brainer to us.

An inspiring venue and a great place to visit if you are ever in the area, led to another fantastic event that was a real privilege for everyone who came along.
